At the Department of English Language and Literature, the home round of this year’s TDK conference took place on November 28th. Two competitors presented their topics: Németh Máté’s paper was entitled „‘Arsenal/Diósgyőr till I die’ A comparison of English and Hungarian football fan culture based on Nick Hornby’s Fever Pitch and anthropological fieldwork”, while Szűcs Áron talked about the “Sources of horror and terror in The Monk by M. G. Lewis”. Both presenters demonstrated remarkable creativity and insight in discussing their research, so the jury decided that both papers should proceed to the national round. The first prize was given to Németh Máté for combining a unique research perspective and a principled approach.
